Amazon Echo Dot in the Classroom

In the world we live in today new technology is always coming out, with the main goal being, make the users life more convenient and enjoyable. These new gadgets engage students because most of them have heard of them and or use them outside of school. If these gadgets are implemented into the school, I believe that it will be much more of an enjoyable experience for the students. Also if some students don't get the opportunity to use new technologies at home, to expose them at school will keep everyone updated and more knowledgeable about current technological advancements.

The technology that I believe that could be used productively and successfully in the classroom is the Amazon Echo Dot. This a voice activated device that has a response system called Alexa, before you say anything you have to say "Alexa...". This new creation by Amazon is the little brother to the Amazon Echo, making it smaller and less expensive, but it doesn't lose any of its brain power. It is so easy to use that almost anyone can set it up hassle free, all that is needed is plug it in and to connect to wi-fi, and start asking it anything. Even after the setup it is still really easy to use with its simple interface on the top. With this great convenience of voice activation and state of the art technology, it is surprisingly I a price range where most schools can afford them at $49.99 a unit in either white or black.
With this in the classroom it opens up more doors for learning, you can pretty much ask Alexa anything, you have current news events at you finger tips, and much more applications out there with the sole purpose of being educational. This could be used in a variety of different classroom environments - Music class (Pandora/Spotify), History (This day in History/ News Channels), Science (NASA/Weather Apps). With the hundreds of applications available for the Amazon Echo Dot, this makes it extremely integratabtle into any classroom. I truly believe that this a step away from the normal tech that is seen in a classroom, however it is a step in the right direction to making the overall classroom experience more congenial.
