Google Forms For Teachers

Many people know of Google Drive, Docs, Slides and Sheets but another handy product is Google Forms. Google Forms is a product that can be used to create quality quizzes/tests/worksheets and surveys quickly. This product is entirely free and anyone with a google account can access and make use of it. This product could actually save money for a classroom instructor who uses other utilities that require a membership/subscription to be able to use features that are otherwise free on Google Forms.

The interface is quite easy to use. Just press Blank and a new form will be created. From there the user can title the test and create as many answer options as they like. There are input boxes for the questions and answers. To save time, the user can duplicate the questions before putting in the question and answers. There are also short answer, long answer, multiple choice grid, linear, checkboxes and dropdown answer types besides the normal multiple choice.

The user can either choose to print out the quiz for manual grading or the user can send out the quiz to be taken online. The user can preview what his/her test will look like with a preview feature and if using the online sending feature, can assign point values to specific questions and allow the computer to auto-grade.

Google Forms is an easy and versatile way for instructors to create tests and streamline the grading process. From experience, many teachers struggle with grading tests and quizzes efficiently and this product can take a lot of that burden. A few things that could be better is its printing feature which prints out the quiz in a not eye-pleasing format. It also doesn't allow for many questions to be printed on each page with one question taking up about a third of the page. But over all, the time and cost benefits could be quite helpful to a classroom instructor.
