Google Meets gained a lot of popularity and use at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020.  This easy to use google app made online learning a bit easier for both students and teachers who were now forced to go to class at home.  Meets updates almost every few months, with its last update being in April of 2021, securing that the application will not be out of date and continues to improve.

What is Google Meets?:

Meets is a Google made video chat application, similar to other apps such as Zoom, Facetime, Discord, Skype, etc.  This free application allows participants to chat and communicate while still being able to see each other.

How to Use:

Google meets is fairly easy to navigate.  For participants, all they have to do is either click on the link provided to them by the host, or type in the meeting code.  For the host, it is really simple to make a meeting.  All the host has to do is click the 'New Meeting' button.  They can schedule future meetings, and send meeting codes to students.

About the App:

Google Meets has many features that make online learning easy.  For example, the host can record a meeting, present during the call, and use breakout rooms.  For breakout rooms, the host can control the length of time in which participants are in the rooms, and who is in each group.  This allows for a situation that would be similar to working in groups in a traditional classroom. The presentation screen can allow teachers to present slideshows, videos, or any other material on their computer.  If a video is being presented, the host can turn off other mics and allow the only audio to come from the video source.

Another nice feature about google meets is its sound settings.  If you are in a meeting and try to talk with your mic off, google meets will let you know and offer to turn it on.  There is also an option to block out background noise and filter out curtain sounds.  This can be done on a computer, android, and iphone.  Another positive feature about Google Meets is that it doesn't need to be downloaded and can be accessed from a web browser, unlike other video chat sites.  Teachers can also connect Google Meets directly to Google Classroom, making the online learning space much more easier, accessible, and organized.

Overall, I actually really liked using Google Meets personally. It was a good way to communicate with others online.  It's very straightforward and easy to navigate.  It is a perfect tool for both students and teachers.
