Learning Math Through Prodigy

Prodigy is an online learning interface for kids grades 1-8 to learn math. Prodigy uses a wizard battle game to help kids learn concepts spanning basic addition to surface area and volume.  The platform stretches across many topics such as graphing, geometry, fractions, algebra, and statistics. Prodigy can be accessed both at home and at school and requires a computer with minimal processing power. Along with being accessible to over 50 million students, Prodigy is data-backed, demonstrating that the program increases standardized test scores and the general understanding of math topics in general. There is an average of 12.39 increase in standardized test scores and an 11.6% increase in students meeting standards. The program bridges the gap between concepts and applications by providing a visual tool, the wizard game to help students who struggle with math, understand it better and apply the concepts in more complex situations. By using Prodigy, parents and teachers can help to engage students who would otherwise not want to do math or have trouble understanding some of the topics. It is a great tool that can be used for homeschooling, but the only downside is that it only teaches math and not other topics. Prodigy can also be used to help teachers in the classroom to keep students engaged and teach topics while also having fun. Students in a class can go through topics together while using the wizard game to keep them practicing.
