I will be doing a project on the new sprout workspace system in the classroom
I think it is a very unique system unlike anything I have seen previously
The capabilities of this computer are:
Camera, Drawing, Gallery, Document scan, 3d capture, and Collaborate.
Camera, Drawing, Gallery, Document scan, 3d capture, and Collaborate.
Capture
Camera is pretty self explanatory, you can stick and object on the mat and it will take a 2d image of the object for example:
If I place an origami frog on the mat and push ‘capture’, the camera from above will take a picture. Then later you can use it as a sticker.
Your can also take a selfie using the selfie button, the camera is not the best on the computer but it is decent.
Create
Now this is when the system gets very interesting, if you go into create, your will be met with a blank page and many buttons but it’s not as complicated as it looks. The paintbrush key does as exactly what you would think it does. Your can draw anything and with the pen tool it’s even easier to create amazing pictures. Another tool available is the typing tool which is again self explanatory as it quite literally just types. There is a page orientation button… that...your know orients the page. And finally the angle button which lets your switch the angle of your drawing. Now at the top you've got a camera button that does everything I explained earlier, a library looking item that shows your “library of past works”, an eye that projects your picture onto the screen. A computer screen that takes a screenshot of the actual computer and projects it on your image, a world symbol that lets your search the web easily. A connecting button that lets you share your project, and finally the people that lets your have group projects. Now enough about create, let's move onto gallery
Gallery
The gallery is pretty self explanatory as it literally just shows you a gallery of your past works. It’s really convenient when trying to find a particular item in your vast library of past works.
Doc Scans
This is a very cool feature as it can scan docs to have in your computer without having to use a separate machine. The app will prompt you to take a picture and you can scan your document then you can start to play around with the different features such as highlight, crop, and make notes, this is very similar to the create app
3D Capture
It will prompt you to choose whether you would like to make a single 3D scan or a 3D capture. If you chose single scan it will as your to place your object on the mat and it will and it will be scanned. If you choose 3D capture it will ask you if your want to do it manually or if you’d rather automatically scan on their 3D capture stage, which is a separate expense. Regardless of which one you choose the results will be similar. The system will flash and you will get a pretty accurate 3D model of the object. It’s a very cool app that I’m sure will only get more accurate over time.
Wrap up!
Would I recommend this for a school? Yes and no. I feel like it’s a fun tool that will help with projects and stuff of that sort. I think this computer system is a very cool resource but the price at ~ 3,000 it’s a very big investment when this product is clearly only going to get better. I see this product having big advancements in the future such as an even more precise drawing feature, more accuracy on the 3D capture app, and more apps in general. As of now the new Sprout Pro was released and it appears there’s no real improvements according to their support chat besides the aesthetic. Here is a conversation I had with a representative:

Hannah: "What is the difference between the Sprout Pro and the original Sprout?"

Agent (Nicole): "Welcome to our Flash Sale!"

System: "Hello! My name is Nicole. I've read your question and am ready to assist you."

Agent (Nicole): "Welcome back to HP.com chat. I'm happy to see that you've returned."

Agent (Nicole): "Let me check on that."

Hannah: "hello?"

Agent (Nicole): "Sorry for the long wait."

Hannah: "It's fine"

Agent (Nicole): "Thank you."

Agent (Nicole): "I have already checked all my available resources and I can't still validate the difference between the two."

Agent (Nicole): "What we currently have in the store is the Sprout Pro,"

Agent (Nicole): "We no longer the first version (Original) of the Sprout."

Although this is not a real improvement on the product per say I do think this will have improvements in the future.
