3D Scanning and Making with the Structure Scanner

With making with 3D design as a topic, the Structure Sensor is a new take on augmented reality as well as technology that could become useful for creating 3D printed models. As replicating real-world items proves difficult when starting from scratch in 3D design applications such as 123D Design, Structure Sensor attaches to an iPad and utilizes the hardware-specific apps developed by Occipital.

3D design is popularly know in modern day technology, used for prototyping, manufacturing, physical appendages, and much more. The structure sensor allows for three-dimensional analysis depending on the user's end-goal. With the variety of apps available, users can do useful things such as measure the dimensions of a room in real time, making theoretical changes to the room as they go, or playing games in a pre-defined physical space with the app open, using the space as an augmented reality.

Other uses such as scanning an object, to be printed directly from a 3D printer, or scanning in the medical field to create realistic models for prosthetics, are possible. In the classroom, Structure Sensor can both keep students occupied with augmented reality applications and teach students about the importance of precision with model making through the scanning applications. The Structure Sensor can also be attached to the custom made Bridge Headset to use in Virtual Reality games.
