 Apps for Education - DeltaMath

Why did I chose DeltaMath?

During March, after school was cancelled, my Precalculus class used DeltaMath as a way of learning new math material, and also reviewing. This year my Calculus class also happens to be using this app, as a way to review material we learned in the past term. I chose this app because I believe this app provides a good alternative to live online classes, and can be used as a short term substitute for live teaching.

What is DeltaMath?

DeltaMath is an online site that helps students practice math problems with educational videos and examples. DeltaMath provides a learning experience, where the teacher does not have to be present, but the student can still learn. DeltaMath provides an opportunity for students to practice their skills, if they are struggling in class. It allows for students to foster understanding for the concept through easy to understand examples and videos. DeltaMath can also be used as a way to assign homework problems.

How do you use DeltaMath?

Teacher's Perspective

DeltaMath problems are assigned by a teacher. The teacher first picks a certain topic from the vast list of topics on DeltaMath, and assigns any number of problems they wish. Once that is done, the teacher chooses to either not put a video, input their own video, or input a youtube video. The teacher will next put how many attempts the student will have on the problem. Once that is done the teacher can then assign the work, and the problems will show up like so.

Students Perspective

The students will then have a screen like the one above. They can either click on the "Watch help video" button and watch the video,or click on the top right. They can scroll through the multiple examples that DeltaMath provides to get an idea about the problem they're about to solve. If the student knows what they're doing, then they don't have to click on either of those buttons. If the student get's the answer right there will be a checkmark like so. It will then also display the method that DeltaMath used to solve the problem. If you get the problem wrong, you will have a certain number of attempts left to solve the problem again. If you get it wrong after a set number of tries,  DeltaMath will provide the solution to the problem, and how they solved it. You are also allowed to go over the amount of assigned problems if you wish to do so. This will allow you to practice a skill that you think you are not good at.

My Thoughts:

My final thoughts on DeltaMath is that it is a good learning tool that can be used to help review or learn some new material. This app is helpful in many ways, as it allows for me to refresh my memory on a topic throughout the video and example button. This is a great learning tool, that I hope teachers and students alike take advantage of.
