STAT Call - Computer Overheating in the Library

Location: Ms. Gallants Classroom for Graphic Design
Date: 1/13/20

A computer in the library was reported to make a loud, distracting noise. After further investigation by Alex, Annalyn, Galwin, Mason, and I, we deduced that the computer was overheating and the fan was malfunctioning. With this information, we proceeded to open the case and take apart the cooling setup. We found lots of dust blocking the path of the fan blades and resolved on cleaning the system out. We were also suspicious about an issue with the power supply, so we disconnected it and tried to clean the internal fan. After that, surprisingly, the noise went away and the computer functioned well without overheating as the fan system worked as if it was good as new. This snafu was easily dealt with by cleaning the hardware and ensuring that all parts, especially the fan worked as expected.
