Almost everything is digital today in 2019. You can do almost anything through your phone, from taking a class, ordering food, planning a road trip, to simply keeping all your appointments in order and organized. Technology is constantly improving as more and more innovative ways to solve problems are being created. This boom of technological advancement includes education. Through colorful and flashy games, kids are learning basic educational skills for fun. One example of these games is an app called Adventure Academy. Adventure Academy is an online game created in May 2019 by Age of Learning, the company that created ABCmouse and ReadingIQ. This game is for kids aged 8-13, so it is like ABCmouse but for kids that grew out of it. This multiplayer game is basically a virtual school for kids, in which “students” can walk around campus with their friends while completing assignments and tasks form their teachers through interactive activities and games. This game is available on iPhone, iPad, and computer, so kids can play anywhere. Users can create their own character, make friends, and walk around the virtual campus while completing tasks and assignments in the subjects on Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies. Tasks are also given out by kiosks within the games, through different lessons based on the learning level chosen by the user at the start of the game (beginner, intermediate, or advanced). In these lessons, you can find videos, articles, books, puzzles, and games. To excel and progress in the game, users have to complete the educational activities assigned. Therefore, this game is focused on education rather than just fun or games. Age of Learning’s goal in to “build a strong foundation for academic success,” as its curriculum was developed through teachers around the world’s input and suggestions on what kids need to know to be successful in school. This game is perfect for students to increase their familiarity with a specific topic. This game does require a subscription to play, but if it gets kids to want to learn, study, and excel in school, the subscription may be worth it. Overall, Adventure Academy is a fun game that allows kids to learn topics necessary for school while also making the learning process fun.
